Dear friends,
Gyumri State Pedagogical Institute after M.Nalbandyan (GSPI), one of the oldest higher institutions in the Republic of Armenia was founded in 1934 in Leninakan (renamed Gyumri). For the past years it has undergone many structural changes and at present it comprises 7 departments including Foreign Languages (English, German, French, Russian, Translation Studies); Physics and Mathematics; History and Armenian Philology; Geography, Environmental Protection and Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemistry); Pedagogics, Psychology and Social Work; Physical Education including Kinesiology and Primary Military Training; Extra-Mural Education.
The major institution of higher education in Shirak region, GSPI is 75 years old. It is not only one of the leading educational and scientific centers in the sphere of national education, but also a large cultural structure which for already several decades has played an incomparable role in the social and cultural life of the Republic. GSPI has given more than 20.000 graduates. At present GSPI is a big scientific center with its 29 chairs, 3 educational research sectors, 2 scientific centers with more than 6.500 students getting free and fee-paying education and 370 Faculty members (among whom there are Associate members of the Academy of Sciences, PhDs, Assistants and Tutors.
Many educational reforms have been carried out, the aim opf which is to be involved in the international educational process and to provide pre-service and in-service teachers with a high-quality education. More than 40 grants have been implemented.
The Institute has a three-degree credit-based educational system (Bachelor, Master and Post-Graduate courses). We have successfully integrated into the proces of the European educational reforms and according to the principles of Bologna process we cooperate with other universities. This cooperation includes:
- - Students and Academic exchange through Erasmus Mundus "External Cooperation Window for Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan".
- - The Embassys of the USA, France, GB, the Russian Federation.
- - International organizations and projects as IREX, ACCELS, TEMPUS, DAAD.
We are open to further acquirement of joint projects and efficient collaboration with you and are looking forward to having you here in ancient, but always young- at- heart Armenia.

Students' council (SC)
SC represents students self-government in GSPI. It expresses and secures the students' interests, organizes their leisure, contributes to their educational, creative, moral and spiritual growth, makes interesting proposals. SC takes an active part in the institute social life and government, collaborates with the President's Office. All Armenian Youth Fund and other organizations, coordinates the activities of current student clubs ( Students' Drama Circle, Young Authors, the Club of Young and Wigtty Students), find solutions to their problems. Each Department has its own SC. Department top students are involved in them. Department SCs are real barometers of students' life, so important and necessary in organizing the Students' life.
Students Research Society (SRC)
SRC has always been the most important link in encouraging and forming students' research skills, forming highly-skilled professionals. Many of the teachers used to be active members of the society. It is here that they were taught to make their first steps in their research work, came completely devoted to the science. For many years it used to be one of the best in organizing the students' research work in the Republic. The society functions in all the departments attracting the best students who have an inclination and love for creative work. It organizes scientific discussions, annual sessions, publishes the best research works in separate volumes.
